NORTH BRANFORD, Conn. — Fair and festival season is officially here in Connecticut!
It was a busy night filled with food and fun, as the North Branford Potato and Corn Festival got underway.
Elizabeth and Ron Siena of North Branford have been attending for years. They told FOX61, “It’s a great festival, a great way to promote the town. And it’s growing and growing. Each year it gets bigger and bigger.”
The festival is in its 22nd year, with all of the corn donated from local farmers. The event has grown since beginning as a one-day festival in a softball field.
Now, massive crowds flock to the festival grounds for a full three-day weekend filled with activities.
However, there is some healthy debate over team potato versus team corn!
Alyssa Joy of North Haven said, “Well, potatoes you can have like a million different ways. Corn it’s different. I don’t know, I do really like corn though. I would say corn.”
Her husband, Joshua, argued, “I would say potatoes for the reason that you mentioned there’s just so many options.”
The festival also features live music, food competitions, games, rides and an exotic petting zoo.
There is no gate fee, and the town offers free shuttle rides to the grounds. Otherwise, on-site parking costs $20.
Jessie Caetano, the director of Parks & Recreation in North Branford said, “What we do make is the revenue off of the corn and potato booth and the parking, but it really just covers our overhead cost and then additional costs go to some of our local organizations.”
Festival hours are from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
