82-year-old woman dies in Guilford crash on Route 80

Another individual involved in the two-vehicle crash also suffered serious injuries, police report.

GUILFORD, Conn. — A two-vehicle crash in Guilford on Saturday morning resulted in the death of an 82-year-old woman, the Guilford Police Department reports.

The police department says it responded to the 1600 block of Route 80 for a two-vehicle crash involving injuries that occurred around 10:30 a.m. Upon arrival, officers secured the scene while members of the Guilford Fire Department provided medical attention to those injured.

Two individuals in one of the involved vehicles suffered serious injuries and were transported by ambulance to the hospital. Guilford police say that one of those individuals, the 82-year-old woman, passed away at the hospital because of her injuries.

The police department notes that the name of the deceased will be withheld until the family has had time to make appropriate notifications. Guilford police give their condolences to the family of the woman.

According to Guilford police, it is department policy to investigate all traffic crashes in a thorough, professional manner. The department says the South Central Connecticut Traffic Unit is available to consult and share its resources.

As the traffic unit gathered information for its investigation into the crash, Route 80 between Long Hill Road and the North Branford line was temporarily shut down before reopening Saturday afternoon.
