94-year-old swimmer who died at Hammonasset Beach State Park identified

DEEP said that EnCon police went to the beach after receiving a report about a woman who went underwater and did not resurface.

MADISON, Conn. — A 94-year-old woman who died after swimming at Hammonasset Beach State Park in Madison Thursday has been identified, according to the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

Cicely Worrall, 94,of Chester, was identified by DEEP.

DEEP said that EnCon police went to the beach after receiving a report about a woman who went underwater and did not resurface. The town of Madison police and fire departments, along with EnCon rangers and lifeguards whose shift had already ended, also responded.

An off-duty nurse at the scene performed CPR after the woman was pulled from the water, DEEP said. She was taken to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

The state's Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is working to determine a cause and manner of death.

EnCon police is leading the investigation, according to DEEP.
