BRANFORD, Conn. — Route 1 (East Main Street) in Branford has reopened after a fatal crash involving a motorcycle occurred early Thursday evening.
The Branford Police Department initially reported the road's closure on Facebook just before 7 p.m. on Thursday. The road reopened prior to 11 p.m.
According to the police department's first post, a serious accident investigation was ongoing in the 300 block of East Main Street. The South Central Traffic Unit was reportedly conducting the investigation there.
Several hours later, Lt. Roach of Branford Police reported that a motorcycle was heading west in the area of 309 Main St. when it struck a car heading east, making a left turn.
A 56-year-old man from Northford was reportedly transported to the hospital, where he died. The driver of the vehicle that struck him stayed on scene and is cooperating, Roach said.
No one has been charged at this time. The accident remains under investigation.
