NORTH HAVEN, Conn. — A New Haven man is dead after a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 91, state police said.
The crash happened Wednesday, just after 5:30 p.m. in North Haven, according to officials. One of the cars, a Honda Civic, was driving in the far left lane on I-91 South, just south of exit 9.
State police said the Honda drove out of the left lane and into the grass center median, where it crashed with the metal beam guardrail.
From there, the Honda drove into the northbound median before driving onto the northbound side of the highway. It then crashed with a Chevy Malibu.
The front passenger in the Honda, a 32-year-old from New Haven, was taken to the hospital for his injuries, where he was pronounced dead. The drivers of the Honda and Chevy were taken to Yale New Haven Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, according to state police.
The crash remains under investigation. If anyone has information related to the crash or who may have witnessed it, they're asked to contact Trooper Patrick Miko at Troop I, 203-393-4200 or email patrick.miko@ct.gov.
The expected duration of the closure is currently unknown. Anyone in the area is asked to find an alternate route and plan for traffic delays.
