MERIDEN, Conn. — A man riding a motorcycle died after a collision with a pickup truck in Meriden Wednesday night, according to the city's police department.
The city's emergency communications received multiple 911 calls at 3:38 p.m. about the crash at the intersection of East Main Street and Paddock Avenue, police said.
Officers who arrived at the scene found the motorcycle driver, identified as Juan Cruz, 36, of Meriden, who was unresponsive and in the roadway of the intersection.
The Meriden Fire Department, along with Hunters Ambulance, began medical treatment as Cruz was taken to the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain.
He was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to police.
Based on preliminary information, police said that investigators learned that a black Toyota Tacoma was traveling west on East Main Street and was preparing to turn left onto Paddock Avenue in the left turn only lane.
According to police, witnesses told them that they saw an orange Honda CBR600 motorcycle traveling east on East Main Street at a high speed just before the crash.
The investigation is being led by the Meriden Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit, and any witnesses or people with video are asked by city police to contact them at 203-630-6201.

East Main Street was closed for several hours Wednesday for the crash investigation.
