MERIDEN, Connecticut — A woman was seriously injured after she was struck by a car Wednesday evening, Meriden police said.
Just before 8 p.m., Meriden dispatch got several 911 calls reporting a person hit by a car on the northbound side of Broad Street at Charles Street.
When Meriden officers got to the scene, they found a 21-year-old woman who suffered serious injuries to her head and lower body. She was rushed to Hartford Hospital for treatment.
According to officials, the woman was crossing Broad Street on the crosswalk at Charles Street and pushing a small cart with bottles. She was almost across the street when she was hit. Witnesses told police the car slowed down while traveling northbound before driving away from the area.
The evading car is described as a lighter-colored (white, light gray, or silver) sedan with possible front and right damage and a broken windshield.
Police said several video surveillance cameras were in the area, and any area businesses or residents who have footage or any other relevant information are asked to call the Meriden Police Department at 203-630-6201.
