MILFORD, Conn — Two kayakers were safely brought to shore after their kayak capsized in the Long Island Sound Saturday, the Milford Fire Department said.
According to MFD, the city's Emergency Operations Center received a 911 call at 2:28 p.m. for a report of a person in the Long Island Sound who was unable to make it to shore.
A jet ski marine unit was launched by crews at 2:38 p.m. and found that a kayak had capsized with two passengers in the water. MFD said that neither had Personal Flotation Devices and were kept afloat by another kayaker that had passed by.
One passenger was loaded onto the jet ski directly, and the other was picked up by a private boat before being brought onto the jet ski. Both were brought to shore and refused medical treatment, MFD said.
The time from dispatch to the kayakers being brought to safety was accomplished in under 15 minutes, according to MFD.
