MILFORD, Conn. — A man died on Wednesday morning while in custody of the Milford Police Department, according to Milford police.
At around 10:36 a.m. on Wednesday, Milford police officers found Michael Brown in the parking lot of the Big Y grocery store on Boston Post Road, police said.
Brown was wanted on multiple arrest warrants and was also a suspect in a larceny that was recently reported at another grocery store in Milford, according to police.
Police said that after officers approached Brown, handcuffed him, took him into custody and got him “under control,” Brown appeared to have some sort of “medical event.”
Emergency Medical Services were notified and responded to the scene, police said.
Brown’s condition worsened while being treated by EMS personnel, according to police, who said that he was given Narcan by EMS and taken to Milford Hospital.
Brown was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital, police said.
According to police, state law requires the Inspector General’s Office to investigate all deaths that occur while in police custody, and the IG’s Office investigators responded to the scene and are currently leading the investigation.
