NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Fire and environmental crews responded to a boat explosion in New Haven that sent one person to a hospital burn unit on Monday evening.
New Haven firefighters and the Dept. of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) were called to the Pequonnock Yacht Club on South Water Street just before 6 p.m. A 911 caller reported seeing smoke coming from a docked boat, officials said.
Responding crews found one person who was injured in the explosion. They were taken to the burn unit at Bridgeport Hospital, according to firefighters.
DEEP worked to clean the two to three gallons of fuel that spilled from the boat. Environmental officials said that the treated water will be dissipated within the next day or so.
The New Haven Fire Investigation Unit is investigating the cause of the explosion.
