NEW HAVEN, Conn. — A man was arrested Saturday after punching an New Haven police officer who attempted to stop him from attacking a woman during a "domestic dispute," according to New Haven police.
Wesley Gill, is facing charges of assault on a police officer, assault in the second degree, three counts of risk of injury to a minor, assault in the third degree and breach of peace in the second degree, all domestic violence charges.
New Haven police said that officers went to the Fair Haven section of the city at 12:02 a.m. Saturday after receiving a report of a fight in progress.
Gill was spotted attacking a woman with a group of people, including children, surrounding the two, according to police. Some within the group had attempted to pull Gill away.
Police said that as officers on scene attempted to stop Gill, he punched an officer in the face, leaving them with serious facial injuries including a concussion.
The officer was hospitalized for 24 hours for their injuries, according to police.
Police said they set a $500,000 bond for Gill, who is currently being held on a $250,000 bond.
