As officers made an attempt to speak with a man inside the garage, later identified as Mazurek, police said he was uncooperative and barricaded himself inside the home, prompting the decision to call in the South Central Regional SWAT team.

According to police, a standoff lasted overnight and into the morning. During that time, police said Mazurek fired multiple rounds outside his home and at SWAT officers. Three SWAT officers - North Branford Police Officer Thomas Pacelli, East Haven Police Officer Raymond Wilson, and Branford Police Officer Rocco Morgan - fired in return, according to the Inspector General.

Police said Mazurek surrendered at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday and was arrested with no injuries reported. He was held on a $5 million bond and was arraigned in court Wednesday.

Residents in the areas of Cloudland Road, Carolyn Court and Sugar Hill Road in North Haven were asked to shelter in place Monday night during the incident until it was resolved Tuesday morning.

The New Haven State's Attorney's Office, Office of the Inspector General and State Police Central District assisted at the scene.
