WALLINGFORD, Conn. — A Wallingford man is dead after a crash on South Turnpike Road on Sunday, according to police.
The crash happened just before 4 p.m. as a Cadillac Escalade, driven by 42-year-old Jonathan Garcia, was traveling southbound on South Turnpike Road.
According to state police, while Garcia was going around a right curve in the roadway, the Escalade crossed over the double yellow centerline and drove into the opposing northbound traffic.
Garcia's Escalade crashed into the left side of an oncoming Chevrolet Silverado with two people inside.
State police said Garcia sustained "life-threatening injuries" due to the crash and was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The two people in the Silverado were also taken to Yale New Haven Hospital with serious injuries.
Officials said state troopers had been trying to stop Garcia in the Escalade following multiple reports of erratic operation throughout multiple towns.
