WALLINGFORD, Conn. — Editor's Note: The above video was published on Sept. 2.
Wallingford police said they arrested a woman Thursday after a hoarding incident that involved 37 dogs living in "poor conditions."
Judith Godek, 69, is facing 37 counts of cruelty to animals. She was released on a court set promise to appear and is expected to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Nov. 1.
Wallingford Animal Control received a report about possible animal abuse on Feb. 23, 2023, which police previously said was taking place in the garage of a property on Benham Avenue.
Investigators found a total of 37 mixed breed dogs inside the garage living in poor conditions, which police said included "a bowl of dirty water on the floor and layers of newspapers covered in feces and urine."
Over a period of months, the dogs were provided veterinary services and provided shelter with assistance from the towns of Meriden, North Haven, East Haven, New London and Poodle Rescue Connecticut, Inc. in Naugatuck.
Police said they conducted a search and seizure warrant at Benham Avenue on Aug. 30, developing probable cause to obtain an arrest warrant for Godek.
She turned herself in on Thursday, police said.
The Wallingford Police Community Impact Unit and Wallingford Animal Control handled the investigation.
