1 dead in Waterbury shooting

The shooting happened early Tuesday morning.

WATERBURY, Conn. — One man was killed in a shooting incident early Tuesday morning in Waterbury according to police. 

Police said they were called to a report of shots fired in the area of 69 Washington Street. When they arrived they found that Roberto Baez, 30, of Waterbury had been taken to the hospital in a private vehicle where he later died. 

Police found evidence of gunfire at the Washington Street address where they believe the shooting happened. The shooting took place less than a block away from Washington Street Elementary School. 

Investigators believe this was an isolated incident following some type of disturbance at that location.

Police are actively investigating this incident. Anyone with information is requested to contact the WPD Detective Bureau at (203) 574-6941 or Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at (203) 755-1234.

This is the sixth homicide of this year in Waterbury.
