WATERBURY, Conn. — A woman is dead after the car she was in, along with her two young children, crashed into a tree in Waterbury, the city's police department said.
Officers arrived at Jersey Street at 8:34 a.m. on Tuesday after receiving a report of a car that hit a tree.
Police said they found the driver, 23-year-old Jermiyiah Pegues, with serious injuries, and two three-year-old children who had reported minor injuries. All three had reportedly been inside of the car at the time of the crash.
Pegues was taken to the Waterbury Hospital where she died from her injuries, police said.
The two children, both aged 3, were also taken to the hospital for evaluation and were later released. Police identified Pegues as their mother.
The Waterbury Police Department Crash Reconstruction Unit (CRU) is leading the investigation, and anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to contact them at 203-346-3975.
The cause of the crash is currently unknown.
