2 injured, including officer, after police cruiser hit while on emergency call: Waterbury police

Police said the driver of the vehicle that collided with the cruiser was not injured and was found at fault for the crash.

WATERBURY, Conn. — An officer was injured after a police cruiser was hit by a vehicle while responding to an emergency call in Waterbury on Sunday, the town's police department said.

Based on preliminary information, Waterbury police said they determined that the cruiser was hit at 1:18 p.m. in the area of 1521 South Main St. while responding to a call for service.

The officer in the cruiser and front passenger of the vehicle that hit the cruiser were taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

The driver of the vehicle that collided with the cruiser, identified as Abumael Soto, 41, of Waterbury, was not injured and was found at fault for the crash, police said.

Soto is facing charges of fail to yield while turning left and operation of a motor vehicle without a license.
