WATERBURY, Conn. — A crash in January is now being investigated as a homicide, with an 18-year-old charged as a suspect, Waterbury police said.
On Jan. 30, police were called to the parking lot at Bertie's Restaurant in the city, located on North Main Street after a report of a crash. When they got to the restaurant, they learned that the vehicle had driven through the parking lot and backyard area of a nearby home, where it hit several objects before stopping.
The driver of the vehicle, 38-year-old Waterbury resident Keno Williams, had been shot in the back of his head, according to police. The first responders rushed Williams to St. Mary's Hospital for treatment.
Investigators soon identified 18-year-old Angela Bodden-Mitchell as a suspect and found her on Saturday, taking her into custody.
She was charged with attempted murder, first-degree attempted robbery, and first-degree conspiracy to commit robbery.
She was held on a $2.5 million bond and was arraigned in court Monday.
On Tuesday, Waterbury police announced that Williams passed from his injuries at the hospital, upgrading the investigation to a homicide.
Police said the Waterbury State's Attorney's Office will review Boddon-Mitchell's charges due to the upgraded investigation.
