Wolcott Country Fair postpones its opening due to weather conditions

Fortunately, the forecast calls for sunshine on Saturday and Sunday, as the fair kicks off.

WOLCOTT, Conn. — The remnants of Hurricane Debby are making an impact on a lot of weekend plans.

Due to the conditions tonight, the Wolcott Country Fair decided to postpone its opening and reschedule some of its events.

"Unfortunately, Mother Nature has its own plans for us" said Gene Fercodini, the co-chair of the fair.

Organizers decided to postpone the opening day until Saturday and move some of Friday’s events. The fair will have extended hours on Sunday, now going from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

And, unlike the rain we are seeing, Saturday and Sunday are forecasted for sunshine. Those blue skies will have everyone smiling - fair-goers and the lions alike - because of all the good the fair brings.

Fercodini said, “This our 45th year, and the folks that started it started with a small amount of money for scholarship, and we are fortunate enough now to have six or seven $2,000 scholarships for the high school."

In addition, they have a food pantry and blood drives through the year.

But this year, the fair is not just for the community - it's also in honor of longtime Lion’s Club member Tommy Centinaro, the other fair co-chair who passed earlier this year.

Fercodini said, "He was one of the main drivers of the fair, so a lot that we are doing for the fair this year is for him."

The fair goes from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday.

Tickets are $10 for general admission to get in on either day!
