BANGOR, Maine — A New Haven man on parole for a fatal shooting in 1998 was arrested at a traffic stop in Bangor, Maine on Friday, according to Maine State Police, or MSP.

At 12:30 p.m. on Friday, MSP said that a sergeant from the Northern Field Troop conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 95 in Bangor for a speed violation.

The driver, identified as Cyrus Griffin, 30, of New Haven, had allegedly been driving without a valid driver's license and was on parole in Connecticut for a homicide.

According to MSP, one of the conditions of his parole was that he was not allowed to drive outside of Connecticut.

Troopers obtained probable cause to search the vehicle and found a loaded pistol under the driver's seat. MSP said that Griffin was prohibited from possessing guns at the time.

According to MSP, they located 375 grams of cocaine, 69 grams of cocaine base and 142 grams of fentanyl xylazine, along with $2,100 in suspected drug proceeds which they seized.

Multiple items related to the manufacture and sale of illicit drugs were found in the vehicle, MSP said.

MSP took Griffin into custody and brought him to Penobscot County Jail, where he is being held on a $150,000 bond.

According to judicial records, Griffin was sentenced for a fatal shooting that took place on Jan. 29, 1998, in New Haven.

The records state that he, along with Denard Lester, both 14 at the time, robbed Tyshan Allbrooks, 18, by taking what was described as a "necklace or medallion made of gold."

After Allbrooks went to a friend's house and reported the incident to police, Griffin spotted her walking along Whalley Avenue in New Haven.

Griffin, who was in a vehicle at the time with Lester and two other 16-year-olds, stated that "snitches get stitches" before chasing Allbrooks on foot. After she entered a convenience store to call for help, the records state that Griffin caught up to her and fatally shot her twice in the chest and four times in the back with his pistol.

He was sentenced on his manslaughter conviction of 40 years in prison, with execution suspended after 30 years and five years probation.
