LISBON, Conn — A Plainfield woman is dead after the van they were riding in crashed on Interstate 395, state police said.
According to officials, the crash happened just after 10:15 p.m. Monday on the northbound side of the highway between exits 18 and 19 in Lisbon.
State police said a 2000 Dodge Ram Wagon 3500 was driving northbound when it ran off the right side of the road before striking a bridge abutment for the Preson Allen Road overpass.
After the crash, a fire broke out and the van was consumed by flames. The passenger, 33-year-old Anjelly Berrios, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the van was taken to William Backus Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, police said.
The state police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad is helping with the investigation. The crash had closed the highway in the area for several hours.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or may have any related information is asked to contact Trooper Timothy Wengloski or Trooper Christopher Brett at 860-848-6500.
