GROTON, Conn. — Police have arrested a man on assault charges after a man was found in a Groton parking lot with serious injuries Monday morning.
Antwan T. Strickland, 31, Hartford, was charged with Assault 1st Degree and Breach of Peace 2nd Degree. He was held on $750,000 bond and is expected to be arraigned on Tuesday.
Groton police said they were called to Poquonnock Rd on Monday at 10:34 a.m. for a report of an assault that had taken place in the parking lot. A 46-year-old man was found unconscious on the ground.
Officers provided medical aid to the victim until EMS arrived, police said. The victim was taken by ambulance to L&M Hospital in New London and later airlifted to Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven for serious physical injuries to the head.
The victim’s family was notified of his condition by Groton police personnel.

The investigation revealed that the suspect confronted the victim and then struck him causing the victim to fall to the ground.
