NEW LONDON, Conn. — An attempted murder-suicide investigation is underway in New London after a man was found dead and a woman was critically injured from a shooting Saturday, police said.
At 9:34 a.m., officers arrived at an apartment on Hawthorne Drive after receiving a report of multiple people who had gunshot injuries.
According to police, officers inside the apartment found a 30-year-old woman with multiple gunshot wounds, and a 31-year-old man with a single gunshot wound. Fire and police departments at the scene attempted life saving measures, and both people were taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The man died from his injury, and the woman is currently listed in critical condition at the hospital. Police said the woman is a victim of domestic violence and her name will not be released.
Two children, aged 9 and 5 years old, were also found in the apartment but had no visible injuries and were taken to a local hospital for evaluation, according to police.
Police said that they are investigating the incident as domestic violence and that it appears to have been an attempted murder-suicide. Anyone with information is asked to contact the police detective division at 860-447-1481 or submit anonymous information via the New London Tips 411 system.
