GRISWOLD, Conn. — A Lisbon woman is dead after she was struck by an SUV in Griswold, state police said.
According to officials, the crash happened around 3:45 p.m. Thursday at the post office in the Jewett City area of town. A BMW X5 was driving northbound on Main Street when it drove out of its lane, to the left, and crossed through the southbound side of the road.
From there, the SUV crashed into a DOV sign, the post office, and two parked vehicles nearby. The SUV also struck 79-year-old Bernice LaRochelle, who was on the sidewalk.
LaRochelle was pronounced dead at the scene from her injuries, police said. The driver of the SUV was taken to William Backus Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
The Connecticut State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad were called to the scene, and the crash is still under investigation. Anyone with information or who witnessed the crash is asked to contact Trooper Timothy Wengloski or Trooper Christopher Bretty at 860-848-6500.
