VERNON, Connecticut — A jury found a former Coventry resident guilty in Rockville Superior Court on Friday of multiple charges related to an attempted home invasion on July 27, 2023, according to a release from the state’s Division of Criminal Justice.

Devin McConnell, 57, was found guilty of attempting to commit home invasion, carrying a dangerous weapon and second-degree threatening.

“After the jury rendered their verdicts, McConnell pleaded guilty before the Honorable Richard J. Rubino to being a Persistent Offender of Crimes involving Assault,” the release said.

Evidence and statements from the trial revealed that on the morning of July 27, 2023, McConnell left several threatening voicemails on the victim’s phone, including a threat of violence. Prosecutors said he then entered onto the victim’s property.

“McConnell could be seen on the victim’s home surveillance system pounding on the door and windows multiple times with a stick and attempting to enter the home,” the release said. “McConnell was armed with a box cutter during this offense.”

The Coventry Police Department was called and arrived on scene immediately, according to prosecutors. McConnell was arrested on the property.

His sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 26 in Rockville Superior Court.

“The State would like to thank the jury for their time and careful consideration of the evidence to see that justice was done for the victims and the Coventry community, and to thank the Coventry Police Department for their diligent investigation into these criminal acts,” Assistant State’s Attorney Jonathan Shaw said in the release after prosecuting the case.
