WILLINGTON, Conn. — A recent graduate of the Connecticut State Police 135th Training Troop and his Field Training Officer intercepted a large supply of narcotics during a traffic stop off Interstate 84 in Willington last weekend.
The trooper trainee and training officer were patrolling I-84 last Saturday when they saw a rental vehicle tailgating another car, according to a Facebook post from Troop C Tolland on Tuesday afternoon.
In response to the violation, the trooper trainee pulled the vehicle over as it entered the eastbound Willington Rest Area. The trainee and training officer both spoke with the occupants, who were identified as Maine residents with significant arrest histories, according to Troop C.
During the conversation with the occupants, it was determined that there was probable cause to search the vehicle for narcotics.
Troop C says that the search resulted in the seizure of over 600 bags of suspected fentanyl amounting to 124 grams. Two grams of suspected methamphetamine were also found, and a small amount of crack cocaine was discovered as well.
According to Troop C, both occupants were arrested and taken to the Tolland barracks. Each individual was held on a $50,000 cash/surety bond and expected to appear in Rockville Superior Court on Tuesday.
A young pit bull terrier mix was also secured from the vehicle by Tolland Animal Control.
