VERNON, Conn. — Following reports of a two-car motor vehicle accident on Interstate 84 westbound just after 6 p.m. on Sunday, the Vernon Fire Department, Vernon EMS, ASM and state police responded to the scene.
First responders discovered one vehicle rolled over on its side and another vehicle on all four wheels, according to a Facebook post from the fire department. All people involved were able to exit their vehicles before being evaluated for injuries.
According to the fire department, crews blocked two lanes of traffic on the highway while the vehicles were towed away; all travel lanes were eventually opened.
The fire department reminded vehicles passing by any emergency scene to slow down to keep first responders safe.
“The sheer number of drivers that passed this incident and were seen using their phone to take pictures and videos of the vehicles almost caused multiple secondary accidents,” the fire department said.
Concluding the post, the fire department asked drivers to, “Help us keep you safe by keeping your eyes on the road!”
