4 men arrested after crashing stolen Jeep Grand Cherokee in Killingly: State police

A state police K-9 team led troopers to all four occupants of the stolen vehicle.

KILLINGLY, Conn. — Around 3 a.m. Tuesday, state police at Troop D in Danielson were contacted by several neighboring Rhode Island police departments about a stolen 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling westbound on Route 101 toward Connecticut, according to a state police release.

The Rhode Island authorities said the Jeep failed to stop for their officers. State police said that as troopers were attempting to locate the vehicle, a crash was reported along Route 101.

According to the release, when troopers arrived on scene, they discovered the stolen vehicle abandoned in the westbound travel lane, damaged after an apparent rollover collision. State police said witnesses told them that the occupants fled the vehicle and the scene on foot.

A K-9 track was initiated, state police said. It was successful in locating all of the occupants; all four men were arrested and taken to Day Kimball Hospital for an evaluation.

State police said that further investigation uncovered that the Jeep was stolen from the town of Hebron on Sunday.

The release notes that investigators also determined that the driver lost control when coming across a curve in the road, causing the vehicle to run off the road, collide with trees along an embankment, roll over and return to the road right side up.

Once discharged from the hospital, the four occupants were taken to Troop D and processed, state police said.

The driver of the vehicle, Charles Woodall, 18, was charged with interfering with police, reckless driving, evading responsibility and larceny of a motor vehicle (second offense). He was held on a $15,000 bond, state police said.

The three passengers were each held on a $10,000 bond and were charged with interfering with police. The passengers included Jonathan Beckford, 19; Santana Rodriguez, 18; and Adrian Ortega, who turned 19 on Tuesday.

State police said all four men were later transported to Danielson Superior Court for arraignment. The Johnston and Scituate, R.I. police departments were contacted and advised, while Troop K in Colchester was alerted to the recovery of the stolen vehicle.
