Person dies after tree falls on them during storm: Willimantic fire officials

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. — Someone was found dead and trapped under a tree after thunderstorms rolled through the state late Wednesday evening.

Firefighters were called to 120 Union St. around 10:45 p.m. for a report of a person trapped under a tree that fell during the storm, according to Windham Fire Chief Mark Scrivener.

Scrivener said the responders used a chainsaw and cribbing to stabilize the tree and free the victim, which took about 15 minutes.

The victim's identity was not revealed.
