BOLTON, Conn — Connecticut State Police arrested a Windham man who ran from a Bolton crash Friday, leaving 3 passengers behind, including two young children, according to a release Sunday.
Kyle Fortier, 33, of Windham is facing charges of evading responsibility, failure to drive in the proper lane, two counts of risk of injury to a child and interfering with an officer.
At 5 p.m. on Friday, State Police Troop K went over to the area of Brandy Street and Meadow Road in Bolton for a crash involving a car and a pole.
Based on preliminary information, state police learned four people were traveling south in a Subaru Outback when it hit a telephone pole after the driver, Fortier, lost control. The three passengers included two children, aged three and a five, and a 30-year-old woman.
Fortier took off on foot from the crash, leaving the passengers behind, CSP said. No injuries were reported in the collision.
Pawtucket, R.I. police notified state police that they were looking for Fortier and the involved vehicle for questioning after an armed robbery in Rhode Island, according to CSP.
CSP also noted that Fortier was known to carry weapons based on previous encounters.
State Police K9 units from Troop K, Troop H and Troop D searched for Fortier after the crash and later found him leaving a wooded area on Meadow Road.
According to CSP, a department rifle was displayed during the arrest "with no further incident."
Fortier is expected to appear in Rockville Superior Court at 9 a.m. Monday.
The town of Bolton lifted a shelter-in-place request Friday evening for residents in the area of Brandy Street and Hanover Farms.
