HARTFORD, Conn. — A Jamaican national who illegally reentered the United States after being deported was sentenced to two-and-a-half months in prison Thursday, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut.

Fifty-one-year-old Jason Caston Williams, who has also used the names Jason Fitzgerald and Terry Barrington Stewart, received the 30-month sentence in Hartford federal court.

Court documents and statements made in court revealed that Williams entered the U.S. as a Lawful Permanent Resident in October 1982. In June 1991, however, he was convicted in a Connecticut state court of second-degree robbery.

Prosecutors say Williams received a 10-year prison sentence, suspended execution, and five years of probation for that crime. He then reportedly violated his probation in March 1997 and was sentenced to three years in prison.

In September 1997, Williams was convicted in the state of New York of second-degree burglary and criminal possession of a weapon. He received a prison sentence ranging from two-and-a-half years to five years, according to prosecutors.

In May 2001, an immigration judge ordered Williams to be removed from the country, and he was deported to Jamaica.

Prosecutors say that at some point Williams unlawfully reentered the U.S.

On Oct. 20, 2022, he was arrested by Norwalk police and charged with second-degree assault after reportedly using a knife to assault another person.

Williams was convicted of that offense on Oct. 11, 2023, and sentenced to five years in prison, suspended after two years, with three years of probation.

Williams pleaded guilty in federal court to reentry on Sept. 11, prosecutors say. He has completed his sentence and is currently in federal custody.

Williams’ case has been investigated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
