'Finally seeing how my sister attempted to cooperate': Michelle Troconis' family claims innocence during trial into Jennifer Dulos' disappearance

Investigators continued pushing for Troconis to tell them what she knew about where Fotis Dulos was on the day his estranged wife disappeared and where she may be.

STAMFORD, Conn. — Jurors in the Michelle Troconis trial watched the second of three interviews investigators conducted with her during the first few weeks after the disappearance of New Canaan mom Jennifer Dulos.

The hours-long video showed that many of the investigator’s questions to Troconis revisited what her day looked like on May 24, 2019, the day Jennifer went missing.

“I think she understands what she’s facing,” the video showed Andrew Bowman, Troconis' then attorney telling investigators. He turned to Troconis and asked, “Are you sure that Fotis was there that morning when you woke up?”

“I slept with [my daughter] Nicole, so I believe he was - but now that you tell me he wasn’t, he wasn’t,” Troconis replied.

Investigators continued pushing for Troconis to tell them what she knew about where Fotis was on the day Jennifer disappeared and where she may be.

“Our impression of Fotis is that he is a manipulative, controlling person, based on information…He feels he owes you, nothing,” Now retired Conn. State Police Det. John Kimball told Troconis in the video while she cries. “If he could put this murder onto you, he could do that in a second, OK? We don’t think that’s true.”

At one point investigators said: "You're probably one of the most hated women in America right now."

Later in the interview, an investigator asked Troconis, “What does he [Fotis] say about Jennifer?”

She replied that he'd say things like, “‘I never thought she was going to do this to me, I never saw this side of her, sometimes I hope she disappeared.’”

On the stand both Thursday and Friday, Kimball said Troconis’ stories of what happened that day changed throughout the three interviews.

“If this comes down to a trial,” Kimball said to Troconis in the video, “you have a jury of 12 people and they would be told a story that they would have to say ‘Is that a believable story?’”

On Wednesday, the jury heard about how investigators discovered the photocopied timelines and phone logs found at 4 Jefferson Crossing, the Farmington home of Fotis Dulos and Michelle Troconis. Those photocopies were found between the first and second interviews.

"Fotis told us to write a timeline because Jacob [his attorney] told him," Troconis said in the interview.

What wasn't on those timelines? The trip to Hartford, where police said Fotis was dumping bags of evidence along Albany Ave., with Troconis in the passenger seat.

"I went as a companion," Troconis said in the video. "But if I knew, I would not have even walked into that car. That's the part that's like, wow, if he really did this."

Claudia Troconis, sister of Michelle Troconis, addresses media with parents outside Stamford Superior Court on Jan. 26, 2024.

Michelle Troconis’ sister, Claudia, spoke outside of court Friday afternoon, advocating for her sister. She said Michelle is “innocent.”

“We’re finally seeing how my sister attempted to cooperate not once, not twice, but three times with the police,” Claudia told reporters outside of court. “And yet, she was charged. And this was more than 10 hours of my sister telling them, ‘I’ll do anything. To help you. I don’t know anything.’”
