Fatal crash under investigation in Willington: State police

WILLINGTON, Conn. — One person had died after a head-on crash on Route 32 in Willington on Tuesday evening.

State police were called to Route 32 (River Road) at the Battye Road intersection around 5:30 p.m.

Troopers determined that a Ram Promaster van owned by a local pool company crossed the double yellow lines while traveling north and hit a Ram 5500 pick-up truck traveling south.

The Ram Promaster driver, identified as Fred Viets, 37, of Willington, died at the scene, state police said.

The Ram 5500 driver was taken to an area hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

State police continue to investigate this crash. Anyone with information or dash cam footage is asked to call Trooper Nicholas Jamaitus at 860-896-3200 or email nicholas.jamaitus@ct.gov.
